Maybe…it is definitely a double edged sword. Macy’s is not a high-end or discount department store but falls somewhere in the “no man’s land” middle. So on one hand, if they all close a lot of people will be out of work. And those that would continue to work for Macy’s would probably be in a behind the scenes roll, probably similar to Amazon’s warehouse staff. On the other hand, since Macy’s hasn’t been able to connect with Digital Native shoppers, those under 30 years old, the Digital Natives may not even notice that all the stores are gone, and will continue causing disruption to the retail environment in ways that cannot even be imagined yet.
