This is an ode to the strategists. Specifically, our strategists. At WD, our projects are a unique blend of strategy, design & brand, operations, visualization services, architecture & engineering and construction services. All exceptionally important. All exceptionally talented.
But for this particular project, we want to give a special shout out to the team that’s often working behind the scenes to ensure that the resulting design garners excitement for consumers and success for the client. Strategy, for the win.
Let’s take a look at the ways our strategists impacted our recent work for Mercado Little Spain at Hudson Yards. We were tapped to develop a customer experience strategy in parallel with an operations engineering focus. Our strategists are comprehensive when investigating elements that could have any impact on design and operations. Here’s just a partial list of the topics we studied to help create a world class food hall:
- Studied trends in consumer culture
- Audited other successful NYC food halls
- Analyzed Yelp reviews
- Identified unique food-tainment experiences
- Considered hospitality partnerships
- Explored merchandising opportunities
- Developed guest profiles and studied their needs
That work is oh-so-behind-the-scenes, yet oh-so-necessary to give the design team and the operations team the background needed to create an experience that turns out like this…
It’s always exciting to see how the strategy impacts the form of a beautiful finished product like Mercado Little Spain. Next time you’re in your new favorite restaurant or new retail spot, think about the strategists who toiled away at the impactful details behind the work.
