WD was thrilled to take on this unique challenge of efficiently creating a new store to be used as a model for future KK builds. And it has everything: the ability to customize the iconic Original Glazed doughnut, a doughnut theater experience that shows the doughnut making process from start to finish, and of course, doughnut-infused ice cream available in both milkshakes AND scoop sandwiches. To top it all off, the store also features a front patio perfect for enjoying your treats.
With the help of our talented operations strategy & design team, we were able to streamline manufacturing and improve the workflow both behind the counter and in the two-lane drive-thru service. To ramp up the experience even more, we brought some of the doughnut-making theater to those in the drive-thru lanes by extending glass windows across two-thirds of the side of the building so everyone could be in on the fun.
We were dedicated to staying true to Krispy Kreme's brand and used our knowledge of the company to ensure consistency in order to avoid a new prototype feel with this fresh store concept. And in the end, we created a brand-right space that met Krispy Kreme's goals by lowering building costs and heightening the customer experience.
Can't make it to North Carolina to see the new shop? Fear not! Coming in 2020, the Krispy Kreme Times Square Flagship will be open 24/7 (yes, you read that correctly) right in the heart of one of the most heavily trafficked areas on the planet.
This location will serve more guests annually than any other Krispy Kreme in the world, producing six times more doughnuts than the average store. How? By collaborating with WD to develop an operations model fit for the job!
Through capacity analysis, we determined that two production lines were needed in order to meet the anticipated volumes and keep the Hot Light lit as often as possible. Our model is sure to meet the high demand and keep hot doughnuts in the hands of NYC visitors all. day. long.
